CLASS DESCRIPTION
This vigorous class combines the virtuosity of classical technique and the release of post-modern dance with Wolcott’s own dramatic idiosyncrasies. Class begins with a guided improvisation employing sensory awareness, curiosity and our passion for movement, or the “J.O.D” (joy of dance), to gain a fresh perspective on our bodies in motion. We will approach the rest of class from this perspective, using exercises that focus on strength training, flexibility and teaching the mind and body to work smarter, not harder. By exploring the physics of body weight through drops, catches, and turns, students may develop a technique that is both dynamic and nuanced. Phrase work includes gesture, patterns of flight and fall, inversion and consideration for performance. Material for this class is drawn from various techniques and movement styles including Limon, hip-hop, gaga, ballet and pop culture.
